# Meta Advantage+ Sales: when it works, when it wastes budget

> Meta Advantage+ Sales works for accounts with steady purchase data, a reliable Pixel and Conversions API, and genuinely different creatives. Without existing-customer controls it can inflate ROAS while bringing no new customers. Replace the removed budget cap with two ad sets and a spending limit, and turn on audience segment reporting from day one.

## When does Meta Advantage+ Sales actually work?

Meta Advantage+ Sales works when your account produces steady purchase data, the Pixel and Conversions API are reporting correctly, and you give the system a range of genuinely different creatives to test. If one of those is missing, the campaign either fails to learn or spends on easy-converting existing customers and inflates ROAS.

The numbers Meta shared on its developer blog look strong: advertisers using Advantage+ shopping campaigns reported a 32% increase in ROAS and a 17% decrease in cost per action (Meta for Developers, October 2024). Note that these are results reported by users, not a controlled comparison. An average tells you nothing about your own account. The real question is whether your account is set up to land on the good side of it.

There's also a naming change to untangle. In 2025 Meta folded the old Advantage+ shopping campaigns (ASC) into the Advantage+ sales campaign experience. You no longer pick a separate campaign type: a sales campaign that uses Advantage+ budget, audience and placements counts as "Advantage+ on."

## Which accounts are ready for Advantage+ Sales?

Weekly purchase volume is what decides it. The system learns from every purchase. A campaign that sees only a handful of sales a week can't confirm what it has learned, and results swing from one week to the next.

You may have read that Meta lowered the weekly threshold for Advantage+ from 50 to 25 conversions. We couldn't confirm that in Meta's own publications, so don't base your decision on that number. Here's the working rule we use in the accounts we manage:

| Account situation | Our recommendation |
|---|---|
| Dozens of purchases a week, Pixel and Conversions API solid | Start with Advantage+ Sales |
| 10 to 25 purchases a week | Build data first with one consolidated manual campaign |
| Fewer than 10 purchases a week | Fix tracking and the landing page before trusting automation |

Check your budget with the same logic: your daily budget should be close to your target cost per purchase multiplied by the number of purchases you want each week, divided by 7. Example: with a target CPA of $40 and a goal of 30 purchases a week, your daily budget should be around $170. A budget far below that starves the campaign, however well it's built.

Tracking is not negotiable. The purchase event should go through the Pixel with the correct value, and the same data should also be sent from your server through the Conversions API. If the signal is missing or double counted, the system learns from the wrong people.

## Why can Advantage+ inflate ROAS?

There's a pattern we see often. Advantage+ goes live, ROAS looks good, but the monthly count of new customers doesn't move. By design, the algorithm goes after the people most likely to convert: your existing customers and frequent site visitors. Some of those sales would have happened without an ad. All of them are credited to the campaign's ROAS, so the brand looks like it's growing when it isn't.

ASC used to handle this with a single "existing customer budget cap" setting. Meta has deprecated that setting, and its developer documentation recommends recreating the effect with two ad sets. Here's the setup:

1. Build a custom audience from your customer list and recent purchasers.
2. Point the first ad set in the campaign at that existing-customer audience only, and cap it with an ad set spending limit.
3. In the second ad set, exclude the same audience and go broad to reach new customers.
4. Leave most of the budget to the second ad set; the spending limit decides how much goes to existing customers.
5. Define audience segments in your ad account settings so you can see results for new and existing customers separately.

If you only want new customers, the simpler route is a single ad set that excludes the existing-customer audience. Either way, turn segment reporting on from day one. Without it you can't see where growth is coming from.

## How many creatives does Advantage+ need?

There's no fixed number, but an Advantage+ campaign launched with two creatives behaves much like a manual one. The system's job is to match different people with different creatives. With nothing to match, automation adds little.

Our starting recommendation is at least 5 to 8 genuinely distinct concepts: a product video, a customer video, an offer-led static image, a problem and solution angle, and a carousel of reviews. Colour variations of the same image don't count as separate concepts. Our [guide to Meta Andromeda](/en/blog/what-is-meta-andromeda) explains why this matters, based on how Meta's ad delivery system works.

Practical buying details such as installment payments, cash on delivery and fast shipping often win as a standalone concept, especially in Turkey. If you offer them, build at least one creative around them.

## Does Advantage+ always replace manual campaigns?

No. In some situations manual control still makes more sense:

- **Product launches:** If you need to show a new product to a specific audience first, Advantage+ won't give you that control.
- **Short seasonal campaigns:** A two-week season doesn't give the system time to learn.
- **Very narrow audiences:** In narrow segments such as B2B ecommerce, Advantage+ wants to expand, which can be pure waste for you.

When you switch, don't shut down your current setup overnight. Run both structures in parallel or use the A/B test in Ads Manager, then shift budget gradually to the winner. Copying or migrating a campaign sends it back into the learning phase, and Meta's documentation says plainly that there's no way around that.

## What should you do if Advantage+ is wasting budget?

First, pin down which problem you have. If ROAS is good but new customers aren't coming, the issue is existing-customer control. If spend is high and sales aren't, the issue is most likely tracking or the landing page. If results swing from week to week, either data volume is too low or someone is touching the campaign too often.

In all three cases the first step is the same: make no major changes for two weeks and look at the segment report alongside actual store revenue. Dashboard ROAS on its own is not a decision tool.

Setting up this structure and checking tracking is everyday work in our [performance marketing service](/en/services/performance-marketing). If you want to know whether your account is ready for Advantage+, the Performetic team can prepare a [free growth audit](/en/contact) for you.

## Key takeaways

- Advantage+ Sales works when you have steady purchase data, solid tracking and genuinely different creatives.
- The 32% ROAS increase Meta shared is a user-reported average, not a forecast for your account.
- The "25 conversion threshold" claim isn't confirmed in Meta's own sources; decide based on your own data volume.
- The existing customer budget cap is gone; recreate it with two ad sets and a spending limit.
- Turn on segment reporting from day one and compare dashboard ROAS with store revenue.

## FAQ

### Which accounts does Meta Advantage+ Sales work for?

It works for ecommerce accounts with steady purchase data, a correctly reporting Pixel and Conversions API, and at least 5 to 8 genuinely different creative concepts to test. If you only see a handful of sales a week, tracking has gaps or you run just one or two creatives, fixing those first is the safer route.

### Is Advantage+ spending my budget on existing customers?

Without controls, part of the budget very likely goes to existing customers, because the algorithm favours the easiest converters. Exclude your customer list as a custom audience, or set up two ad sets and cap the existing-customer one with an ad set spending limit. The segment report shows where each share of spend goes.

### Did Meta lower the Advantage+ weekly conversion threshold to 25?

Some industry blogs describe it as an April 2026 change, but we couldn't confirm it in Meta's own publications, so don't base your decision on that number. Your weekly purchase volume, target CPA and budget show far more clearly whether a campaign can learn. At low volume, results swing from week to week.

### What replaces the existing customer budget cap?

Meta has deprecated that setting. You can recreate it with two ad sets: one targets only existing customers and is capped with an ad set spending limit, the other excludes that audience and reaches new customers. If you only want new customers, excluding existing customers in a single ad set is enough.

### How much budget do I need to start an Advantage+ campaign?

Your daily budget should be close to your target cost per purchase multiplied by the purchases you want each week, divided by 7. Example: with a target CPA of $40 and 30 purchases a week, that's around $170 a day. A budget far below that slows learning considerably.
