Can you use Shopify in Turkey?

Yes. You can run a Shopify store from Turkey and sell in Turkish lira. Shopify Payments isn't offered in Turkey, though, so card payments have to go through a local provider such as iyzico or PayTR. Shipping, e-Archive invoicing and marketplace connections are mostly handled by third-party apps, and choosing those pieces well is the real work.

What we see with brands running Shopify in Turkey is consistent: the platform itself is rarely the problem. Trouble comes from local pieces like payments, invoicing and shipping being set up in a hurry, each without knowing about the others. This guide goes through them one by one.

Is Shopify Payments available in Turkey?

No. Turkey isn't on the supported countries list in Shopify's Help Center, and Shopify says stores in unlisted countries need to use a third-party payment provider. That has two practical consequences:

  • Some features tied to Shopify Payments, such as Shop Pay, aren't available to a store based in Turkey.
  • Shopify charges an extra transaction fee per sale on stores that don't use its own payment processing, on top of the provider's own commission. Check the current amounts for your plan on Shopify's pricing page, and model your costs with both items in mind.

How do iyzico and PayTR work with Shopify?

Shopify says it works with more than 100 card payment providers besides Shopify Payments. In Turkey the two most common options are iyzico and PayTR. iyzico's developer docs include a step-by-step Shopify guide: you install the iyzico app from your Shopify admin, connect it with the API keys from your iyzico merchant panel and turn on card payments. PayTR has an official app on the Shopify App Store called "PayTR Sanal POS".

Before you set anything up, ask the provider these questions:

  1. Is payment taken on the Shopify checkout, or is the customer redirected to the provider's own page?
  2. Can installment options be shown in the Shopify checkout flow, and for which cards?
  3. Are refunds and partial refunds handled from Shopify admin or from the provider's panel?
  4. Is your business model (dropshipping or cross-border sales, for example) allowed under the merchant agreement?
  5. How do payouts and settlement times work?

On Shopify's community forums, store owners describe providers that won't issue a virtual POS for dropshipping. State your business model clearly in the application. An account suspended halfway through a campaign is one of the most expensive surprises you can have.

Can you offer installments and cash on delivery on Shopify?

Installments are a feature of the payment provider; Shopify doesn't calculate them itself. How installments appear to shoppers depends entirely on the app you choose. In Turkey, the higher the average order value, the more shoppers expect installments, so place a real test order after setup and check whether the installment table actually shows up at checkout.

Cash on delivery is set up in Shopify as a manual payment method. According to Shopify's help page, these orders show as unpaid, and you mark them as paid once the money arrives. Details such as card payment at the door or a cash on delivery surcharge depend on your courier agreement and the app you use.

How do you connect Turkish couriers to Shopify?

Shopify's built-in shipping integrations lean toward international carriers. Creating shipments, pulling tracking numbers and printing labels with Turkish couriers is done through local integration apps from the App Store. On the Shopify side you define shipping rates as flat amounts, free shipping or rules based on order value.

When you choose an app, check two things: that tracking numbers are written to the order automatically, and that the shipping notification the customer receives is in Turkish. Miss either one and "where is my order" messages pile up in customer service.

How do you issue e-Archive invoices from Shopify?

Shopify has no built-in way to produce e-Archive or e-invoices that comply with Turkey's Revenue Administration system. Stores selling in Turkey solve this with Shopify apps that connect to a licensed integrator: when an order completes, the invoice is created automatically and emailed to the customer. Our post on e-invoice and e-archive rules in Turkey explains which one you need and when. Pick the integrator together with your accountant before the store goes live.

What needs localizing in a Shopify store for Turkey?

This table sums up how each piece is usually handled in a Shopify store selling in Turkey:

Area Built into Shopify? Typical solution in Turkey What to watch
Card payments No Shopify Payments Provider app such as iyzico or PayTR Extra transaction fee, redirects, business model approval
Installments No Payment provider feature Does it really show at checkout?
Cash on delivery Yes, as a manual method Courier agreement Orders marked as paid by hand
Courier integration Partly Local integration apps Automatic tracking numbers
e-Archive and e-invoice No App connected to a licensed integrator Accountant sign-off
Marketplace sync No Integration apps Stock sync frequency
Legal pages, KVKK Templates only Turkish distance sales contract, cookie consent Legal review
Admin language Yes, Turkish Admin can run in Turkish Theme translations need checking

Legal requirements such as the distance sales contract, the pre-information form and ETBİS registration don't depend on the platform. They apply on Shopify just the same.

Shopify or a local platform?

There's no single right answer here, only a trade-off. Local platforms come with payments, installments, shipping and invoicing ready to go, so setup is shorter. Shopify stands out for the breadth of its theme and app ecosystem, its cross-border selling tools and how easily it scales, but you have to assemble the local pieces yourself.

Roughly, this is how we decide. If most of your sales are in Turkey, installments matter a lot and there's no technical person on the team, a local platform creates less friction. If you plan to sell abroad, your brand will benefit from global design and apps, and you're ready to manage several apps, Shopify makes sense. Example: for a furniture brand selling only in Turkey with a high average order, showing installments is a major conversion factor; a fashion brand in the same position that plans to expand into Europe may find Shopify's international tools outweigh that. Checklist before you open a Shopify store in Turkey

  1. Apply to a payment provider and get your business model approved in writing.
  2. Test installments, refunds and cash on delivery with a test order.
  3. Choose an e-Archive integrator with your accountant and issue a test invoice.
  4. Install the courier app and confirm tracking numbers flow through automatically.
  5. Publish legal pages and cookie consent in Turkish.
  6. Test GA4, the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API, including the checkout.

The last step is often skipped. If payment redirects to an external page, purchase events can be counted wrongly and ad optimization breaks from day one.

  • Installments are a payment provider feature; test that they actually appear at checkout.
  • e-Archive and e-invoices need an app connected to a licensed integrator.
  • Couriers and marketplaces connect through local apps; check automatic tracking numbers and stock sync.
